البهافريدية حركة معارضة ايرانية ضد الخلافة الاسلامية في العهدين الاموي و العباسي. هذه الحركة شكلت خطورة كبيرة على الخلافة العباسية في بداية ظهورها، وتحديدا في الأجزاء الشرقية (خراسان و بلاد ماوراء النهر)، التي كانت تعد احدى قلاع الزرادشتية.لذا حاول بهافريد من خلال حركته الاصلاحية الاستفادة من تعاليم الاسلام وشعائره و توظيفها في خدمة الزرادشتية، حتى تتلائم تعليماتها الجديدة مع المتطلبات الاجتماعية والثقافية والاقتصادية لسكان تلك المنطقة. فضلاً أن بهافريد شعر بحاجة االناس الى تعاليم الاسلام وقيمه العليا التي اكتسحت في طريقها كل تعقيدات وطقوس الزرادشتية، لذا حاول التوفيق بين الديانتين للخروج منها بدين جديد، ألا وهو البهافريدية.
